چکیده

Bandwidth allocation in the future multiservice global communication IP network presents a very interesting research issue. This paper presents the strategy of Dynamic Partitioning of link bandwidth in IP network. In the Dynamic Partitioning scheme the bandwidth of each link in the network is partitioned into two fractions, one for the low-priority data traffic, and one for the high-priority stream (real-time) traffic. The partitioning is defined by the partitioning parameter, which changes according to the traffic profile and intensity. An algorithm for the change of partitioning parameter is presented. The evaluation of the scheme is done based on a new metric, the connection utility, which is the measurement of the average end-user utility. Based on this measurement, the dynamic partitioning scheme is compared to several other bandwidth allocation schemes. Simulation results on a single link network model show the advantage of the dynamic link partitioning. Furthermore, the paper discusses the use of Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) architecture for the implementation of the dynamic partitioning scheme.

Using a Fuzzy Rule-based Algorithm to Improve Routing in MPLS Networks

Today, the use of wireless and intelligent networks are widely used in many fields such as information technology and networking. There are several types of these networks that MPLS networks are one of these types. However, in MPLS networks there are issues and problems in the design and implementation discussion, for example security, throughput, losses, power consumption and so on. Basically,...

G–BAM: A Generalized Bandwidth Allocation Model for IP/MPLS/DS-TE Networks

Bandwidth Allocation Models (BAMs) configure and handle resource allocation (bandwidth, LSPs, fibre) in networks in general (IP/MPLS/DS-TE, optical domain, other). BAMs currently available for IP/MPLS/DS-TE networks (MAM, RDM, G-RDM and AllocTC-Sharing) basically define resource restrictions (bandwidth) by “class” (traffic class, application ś class, user ś class or other grouping criteria) and...

Bandwidth Constrained IP Multicast Traffic Engineering Without MPLS Overlay

Existing multicast traffic engineering (TE) solutions tend to use explicit routing through MPLS tunnels. In this paper we shift away from this overlay approach and address the bandwidth constrained IP multicast TE directly based on link state IGP routing protocols. The objective is that, through plain PIM-SM shortest path routing with optimized Multi-topology IS-IS (MISIS) link weights, the res...

Experiences with Class of Service (CoS) Translations in IP/MPLS Network

This paper presents some experiences with Class of Service (CoS) translation in IP and MPLS based networks. IP provides CoS in the form of eight priority classes that can be used to distinguish between a variety of traffic types. Since most of the layer-2 technologies provide support for strict QoS, an appropriate translation from the coarse grained IP CoS to the finegrained layer-2 QoS is fund...

Bandwidth Management in MPLS Networks

Two major limitations in legacy IP networking technologies are the impossibility of predicting the bandwidth available on a link at any given time and the difficulty of controlling the allocation of shared bandwidth. Addressing these problems requires a change in the management of networking resources. Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) is the industry-standard approach to switching and forw...
